In light of new research indicating that drinking diet soda on a daily basis increases the risk of stroke and heart attack, Newark Mayor Cory Booker announced that he will try to curb his consumption for a few days:

“I bet a friend I could go three days without diet cola. For an addict, this is going to be seriously hard,” he tweeted.

His followers on Twitter supported his resolution, with one re-tweeting, “Diet Coke rhymes with stroke. (& news says lately diet soda gives u one).”

Booker acknowledged that it was a wise decision to forgo the diet soda, but that the soda-free three days would be arduous.

“Yes, but doesn’t ‘coke zero’ rhyme with ‘my hero’?” he pleaded.
