Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) used Twitter to criticize junior Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) regarding his position on a possible government shutdown due to the larger budget debate.

McDermott tweeted:

@repjoewalsh clearly u’re a freshman. In my exp best to AVOID situations where we don't send SS checks, deny vital services & hurt our econ.

McDermott, who has been a member of Congress for more than 20 years, called Walsh a “misguided freshman Republican” in response to a quote by the latter regarding a possible government shutdown.

“If my Republican leadership asks me to vote for a budget, ! even a two-week budget, that doesn’t have spending cuts, I will say no and I will shut down government,” Walsh said.

Walsh, a Tea Party-backed Republican who took office this year, did not respond to McDermott on his Twitter feed.
