postheadericon Fans of fake Rahm Emanuel Twitter account hope mystery author keeps tweeting

Followers of the satirical fake Twitter personality based on former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel wondered Tuesday night whether the anonymous author would continue the Twitter handle once the Chicago mayoral election was over. On Wednesday the Chicago Tribune published an editorial pleading for the Twitter to continue:

@MayorEmanuel, if you're listening: Please don't. The fun is just beginning, and the mystery is almost as delicious as the tweets themselves. It reminds us of the intrigue surrounding the identity of "Anonymous," the author of the 1996 novel "Primary Colors," a devastating insider! take on Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign.

The fake @MayorEmanuel Twitter feed has risen to Internet stardom thanks to its humorous and vulgar tweets based on Emanuel's reputation as a foul-mouthed curmudgeon. As of Wednesday morning the feed had 36,746 followers. The official twitter feed for Chicago Mayor-elect Emanuel has 10,913.

Media outlets have tried to uncover the anonymous writer's identity but have had no luck.

While there has been no official indication on whether the mysterious writer plans to continue, as of Wednesday morning the Twitter was still publishing new entries.

The real Emanuel got in on the action last week, offering to donate $5,000 to the charity of the writer's choice if he/she revealed their identity after the election.
