postheadericon Steele mistakes Michigan unemployment numbers

RNC Chairman Michael Steele used an old figure in a Thursday tweet about Michigan unemployment, slightly overestimating joblessness in the state for the month of June.

According to the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth, unemployment fell four-tenths of a percentage point from May to June's figure of 13.2 percent.

Steele tweeted:

Don't be fooled by more empty rhetoric &photo-ops. Remind Obama of failure in MI: 13.6% unemp, 69,400 jobs lost since stimulus

While Michigan added 3,000 payroll jobs during the month of June, analysts attribute its slight uptick in employment to the state's shrinking labor force.
