postheadericon Rangel looking forward to âreliefâ of ethics trial

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) said Monday it’s been hard to keep quiet on ethics violations pending against him, but that he looks forward to the trial getting under way.

The charges against Rangel will not be revealed until later this week but likely revolve around failure to disclose income and accepting discounted rent on apartments.

“It may not be pleasant, but it’s gotta give me a sense of relief. At least we all know where we’re going,” Rangel said during an appearance in New York, as captured by NY1.

“But it’s painful to have to say, ‘no comment,’ when people are attacking the very reason that you exist,” he added.

At least one Democrat, Rep. Betty Sutton (Ohio), has called on Rangel to resign. The New York Democrat was forced from his chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee earlier this year as reports of possible ethics violations mounted.
