postheadericon Officials tweet ADA anniversary

Officials used Twitter Monday to note the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the landmark reform legislation that aims to prevent discrimination based on disability.

The ADA was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush in 1990. President George W. Bush enacted amendments in 2008.

The day’s commemorative events included a ceremony for lawmakers and guests in the Capitol’s Statuary Hall, and a House session in which Rep. Jim Langevin (D-R.I.), who is a quadriplegic, presided over the chamber for the first time. The White House also held an afternoon event.

On Twitter, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said:
