postheadericon Obama to sign Wall Street reform Wednesday

President Obama will sign the Wall Street reform bill on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., putting into place sweeping changes to the nation’s financial regulatory system.

Obama will sign the legislation at the Ronald Reagan Building in downtown Washington almost one week after the Senate voted to send it to his desk.

Democrats have plugged the 2,315-page bill as a serious crackdown on Wall Street excesses that led to the 2008 financial collapse, as well as a major legislative victory for Obama.

Republicans say that the bill fails to address major problems, such as embattled mortgage lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and says it extends the government’s hand too far into private business.

Sens. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) all voted for the final version of the legislation. No House Republicans supported it.
