Rick Perry would rather be governor of Texas than Newt Gingrich's vice presidential candidate.

Perry, who backed Gingrich when he dropped out of the presidential race, said he'd much rather be governor of Texas than the vice presidential nominee if Gingrich won the nomination.

"Yeah, well, let me see, Texas governor versus VP â€" the balance on that one isn't even close, so I would suggest to you that that's deep in the rumor category and I got a better gig where I am, thank you," Perry said Thursday on Fox News in response to a question about his backing Gingrich in order to be a top prospect for the vice presidential ticket.

Although Perry has said he has no interest in rejoining the 2012 presidential race, he has left the door open to running again for pr! esident in 2016. He said in February that he would "absolutely" think about running in 2016.
