President Obama called French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday to express support and solidarity over the aftermath of two shootings that resulted in seven dead.

Obama called Sarkozy while aboard Air Force One, en route to Nevada, according to the White House. 

"President Obama welcomed the actions taken by French authorities in identifying and locating a suspect in the killings, and their continued efforts to prevent further acts of violence. President Obama underscored that the American people stand shoulder to shoulder with our French allies and friends in this trying time," the White House said in a statement.
