Vice President Joe Biden had a surprise addition to his schedule on Monday: jury duty.

Biden on Monday morning reported to jury duty at the Superior Court of Delaware at the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington, Del., his hometown.

"The vice president will participate in the standard jury selection process in his capacity as a private citizen," reads a White House statement.

Biden is the second high-powered government official to receive a jury summons in the past week. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan reported for jury duty last Thursday in Washington, D.C., Superior Court, but was not selected to serve.
