“Going green” is very much in vogue. Whether putting newspapers in the recycle bin to buying hybrid cars to attending global policy summits about climate change, there is growing concern about environment and its impact on the future of the planet.

But while focusing on renewable energy and decreased carbon emissions is a positive choice for environmental policy, the law of unintended consequences applies, and a closer look at government policy â€" whether local or global â€" is necessary to determine if the right choices are being made. The current decisions may not be as green as they seem.
