postheadericon Emanuel residency ruling appealed

The ruling that former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel meets Chicago residency requirements and is eligible to run for mayor of Chicago was appealed Wednesday to the Illinois Appellate Court.

The appeal comes the same day a Cook County Court judge agreed with a ruling by the Chicago Board of Elections that Rahm Emanuel has been a resident of Chicago while he was serving as President Obama's chief of staff. If Emanuel had been found to not be a resident of Chicago during his time as chief of staff, he would be ineligible to run for mayor.

The appeal comes from Burt Odelson, the lawyer representing opponents of Emanuel's residency claim.

The election is Feb. 22.

According to multiple Chicago media outlets the residency challenge is expected to go to the Illinois Supreme Court.
