As a young man, Henry Ford worked at the Edison Illuminating Company where Thomas Edison became a mentor, encouraging him to continue his experimentation with the automobile. How apt, then, that 115 years later, an attendee at the Washington Auto Show will be able to stroll down “Electric Avenue” and witness the reconnection of these two men’s signature inventions. The automobile has finally been introduced to the plug, and the electric power network that stands behind it.

With the release of the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt, electric vehicles have finally come to the general public. Many more from the likes of Ford, Toyota and other manufacturers are on the way. With President Obama’s State of the Union call for 1 million electric vehicles (EVs) on the road by 2015, automakers believe their new EVs can reach the mainstream and remain there to stay. The auto industry knows th! at a huge advantage for EVs is that they will “fuel” while! they re st. The service station of the future is your garage.
