postheadericon Newark Mayor Booker nods to D.C. snowstorm

Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker again tweeted about his city's snow-removal effort, but also nodded to D.C. residents who appealed to him for help on Twitter.

Booker retweeted a message from Washington City Paper editor Mike Madden, who said he shoveled out the walks of his neighbors in addition to his own:

RT @mikemadden Shoveled my walk and two houses next door, inspired by @CoryBooker â€" couldn't let Newark be more neighborly than D.C.

He also endorsed a message from D.C. resident @SheilaDC, who asked people to clear the snow off their cars:

SheilaDC @CoryBooker Can you remind drivers everywhere to clear off their ENTIRE car before driving! Biggest winter pet peeve!

Booker earned accolades in the media for his response to the December 2010 blizzard that blanketed the Northeast, including Newark. Booker used Twitter to coordinate plowing efforts and even shoveled out some people's cars and streets himself.

But not everyone was a fan of Booker's approach. Some city officials said he should have used a more centraliz! ed approach.

This time around, the D.C. area received ! between five and eight inches of snow, but it caused massive traffic backups and hundreds of thousands of power outages in the metro area. New York City was hit considerably harder â€" it received up to 18 inches of snow.
