A liberal group went on-air in Nevada on Thursday to thank Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) for shepherding Wall Street reform through the Senate.

The group Americans United for Change released a new ad looking to bolster Reid in his home state, where he is facing a tough reelection challenge.

"Thanks Senator Reid, for leading the charge to pass tough, new rules to rein in Wall Street, protect homebuyers and restore economic stability," the ad says.

Reid helped lead Wall Street reform through the Senate, allowing an extended period of time for debate on legislation, and securing support from a handful of Republicans for the final version of the bill. President Obama signed into law on Wednesday the new regulations for the financial services sector.

AUFC wouldn't say exactly how much it's spending on the ad, except that it is a five-figure amount, and the ad would run the rest of the week on cable in the Reno area.
The top Senate Democrat has encountered a slight bounce in the polls against his Republican opponent, Sharron Angle, who's hammered away against Reid on economic issues. The newly-accomplished Wall Street reforms could be a boon to Reid, at least his campaign is hoping.

"Thanks to Senator Reid, Nevadans will no longer be tricked on the mortgages they buy and lenders are prohibited from making loans that borrowers cannot repay.  Despite the foreclosure crisis in Nevada, Senator John Ensign and his Republicans colleagues failed to stand with those on Main Street," said Tom McMahon, the executive director of Americans United for Change. "They’re looking to go back to the exact same failed agenda that got us into this financial crisis. Harry Reid stood up and said we won’t let that happen.”
