postheadericon Lawmaker's office celebrates Utah holiday

The office of Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) celebrated Pioneer Day â€" a uniquely Utahn holiday â€" on Friday, tweeting a photo of a gelatin mold salad created by a staffer.

Matheson press secretary Alyson Heyrend explains the connection.

“Utah is renowned for its love of Jell-O desserts,” she told The Hill. “It’s a tradition when the state celebrates Pioneer Day to serve Jell-O at picnics and family gatherings.”

Pioneer Day, also known as “Days of ‘47,” commemorates July 24, 1847, when the Mormon pioneers led by Brigham Young first entered the Salt Lake Valley.
