House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) is confident Democrats will hang on to the lower chamber in 2010.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs acknowledged this weekend that enough seats were in play for Democrats to lose their majority.

But Hoyer told reporters on Tuesday that having a lot of seats in play doesn’t mean “by any stretch of the imagination that I think we’re going to lose the House.”

“I don’t think we are going to lose the House,” he added.

Republicans have become increasingly confident in their public statements that they will take over the House.
