postheadericon Tom Ridge, former Huntsman backer, endorses Romney

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge (R), previously a Jon Huntsman backer, endorsed Mitt Romney for president on Wednesday.

"There are few leaders who have such a distinguished record of service to our country. As a combat soldier in Vietnam, he fought with bravery and distinction," Romney said of Ridge, who also previously served as Secretary of Homeland Security, in a statement. "As a Congressman and Governor, he was a tireless servant for Pennsylvania. And as Secretary of Homeland Security, he kept our country safe from those who wished to harm us. I am humbled to have his endorsement and welcome Governor Ridge’s counsel."

Ridge had previously endorsed Jon Huntsman in September. When Huntsman dropped out the former Utah governor endorsed Romney for president. Huntsman received only a few endorsements from sitting and former legislators but of the ones who did endorse him, Ridge is the only one who has crossed over and endorsed Romney so far.
In the same press release, Ridge highlighted Romney's background as a businessman.

"Given the economic problems that America faces, including Pennsylvania, where high unemployment continues to cause such hardship, his experience turning around failing enterprises makes him precisely what the country needs," Ridge said. "I’m proud to endorse Mitt’s candidacy and will work hard to help him recapture the White House this coming November."

Pennsylvania's presidential primary is April 24.
