Running for president is an exhausting experience. It frequently leads candidates to see things through a distorted prism and to say things they would like to take back as soon as the words form in the air outside their mouths.

I hope that’s what happened when Rick Santorum suggested, yesterday, that the United States might as well reelect Obama rather than vote for Romney.
