To the Secret Service, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney is “Javelin” and Rick Santorum is “Petrus.”

Santorum confirmed his name Monday night on Fox News. His Italian grandfather’s name was Pietro, he noted, but he didn’t think a first name would be appropriate. “So I thought Petrus, which is the Latin word for ‘Peter’ and for ‘rock,’” he said. 

He smiled when asked about his GOP rival’s name. 

“I understand [Romney] named it after an American Motors car,” he said. “I remember the Javelin. It was a very unusual car, so I think it sort of fits.”
