Rick Santorum called Mitt Romney and left him a message wishing him a happy birthday on Monday.

Romney turned 65 on Monday.

The birthday wishes come the day before primary contests in Alabama and Mississippi, where Romney is hoping to take a surprise victory. Romney said his ideal birthday present would be a strong showing in the upcoming primaries.

"It's a happy birthday on the road and I'm hoping for a real big present tomorrow from Alabama and Mississippi," Romney said on Fox News. "It'd be fabulous â€" of course, this is all about delegates, and at this stage, we're putting together as many delegates as! we can â€" we have a good, solid lead."
