postheadericon MPAA, Congress face off over R-rated movie âBullyâ

Democratic members of Congress are facing off with the chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), former Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd (Conn.), for assigning an “R,” or restricted, rating to the anti-bullying documentary “Bully.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported on Monday that at least 20 members of Congress had signed a petition asking the MPAA to reconsider the “decision to give ‘Bully’ an R and give it a PG-13 instead.” Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) wrote a l! etter of support for the petition that is hosted by Change.org.

The petition is addressed to Dodd, who now faces pressure from former fellow members of Congress such as Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand ‏(D-N.Y.).

Gillibrand signed the petition, but also tweeted that she is drafting a letter to colleagues in Congress to urge them to join the effort to change the MPAA’s decision.
