postheadericon McCain 'expecting' Super Tuesday to make Romney nomination 'inevitable'

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Monday that Mitt Romney's team was "expecting" Super Tuesday delegate wins to make his candidacy "inevitable," although admitted that the proportional awarding of delegates and rising influence of Super PACs would make securing the nomination more difficult than it was during his run four years ago.

"I think with what we are hoping, or to some degree expecting, that there will be enough of a victory to make it inevitable," McCain said on Fox News. "At the same time with the Super PACs and the ability of one person to give $10 million, it may not be completely over," McCain said.

The Arizona senator has endorsed Romney, but also decried the rise of the Super PACs, created after a Supreme Court review of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance legislation that carries his name.

McCain said that while he could see Romney winning the majority of delegates without winning the majority of states on Tuesday - as McCain did in 2008 - that strategy would be complicated by new GOP rules.
