Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain took to Twitter to defend Newt Gingrich from calls to exit the presidential race.

The tweet came hours after Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney's campaigns both suggested Gingrich depart the race. Santorum's aides said Gingrich should clear the field for a head-to-head showdown with Romney, while the former governor suggested that neither candidate had a path to the nomination.

Cain's defense came despite seemingly acknowledging the delegate math would be difficult during an interview on Fox News Wednesday morning.
