Newt Gingrich is re-airing an ad hammering President Obama over rising gas prices in three Southern states with upcoming primaries.

The campaign announced Monday the previously-released ad would be going up on the air in Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama in a signal that Gingrich sees his path to regain momentum in the GOP nomination fight is through the Southern states.

Gingrich's campaign pointed to a recent We Ask America poll showing Gingrich tied with Rick Santorum and just a point behind Mitt Romney in Tuesday's Tennessee primary as justification for the buy. Mississippi and Alabama hold their contests on March 13.

The ad itself picks up on Gingrich’s pledge to drive gas prices down to $2.50 per gallon, which the former Speaker says could be accomplished by further opening up federal lands and offshore areas to oil drilling.
