postheadericon Campaign insists RNC rule won't prevent Gingrich nomination

Newt Gingrich's campaign emphasized Thursday that a Republican National Committee rule that could prohibit the former House Speaker for being eligible in the first round of voting at the Republican National Convention would not keep Gingrich from becoming the GOP nominee.

"[It's] important to note the rule does NOT block Gingrich from being considered as the nominee," Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond said in an email.

A number of media outlets published stories Thursday noting that RNC rules require candidates to win a plurality of delegates from five nominating contests to qualify for the first ballot.
