postheadericon America is hemorrhaging knowledge as federal employees rush to retire

The first thing you should know about my 38 years of service to America as a federal worker and military officer is that I loved the jobs I did for my country.

The second is that, despite the pride I’ve always felt for my work, I made the right choice to retire when I did last summer. This fact ought to trouble you and our leaders who are throwing our nation’s experienced crew overboard as an excuse for keeping America afloat.

With the exception of astronauts and the intelligence team that caught bin Laden, there aren’t many federal employees whose work is heralded in
newspaper headlines. This oversight doesn’t matter much to us workers.

Whether it’s our role to inspect spinach for traces of salmonella, open new international trade routes for U.S. companies to sell their products, patrol America’s borders, care for our veterans, or acquire the best equipment for our soldiers, a federal employee’s satisfaction comes fr! om the knowledge that America is safer and stronger because we did our jobs.
