postheadericon Rep. Walsh: Boehner doesnât want me around

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) on Thursday accused House Republican leadership of wanting him to lose in the election next year because they prefer more “quiet,” “typical” members of Congress who do what they’re told.

“I get in a fight every week with my leadership,” Walsh said, according to comments reported by the local Kane Coun! ty Chronicle. “And here’s what the fight is about. [House Speaker] John Boehner (R-Ohio) ... this is what he tells us every week: If we would just be quiet [and] don’t make waves right now. Privately, John Boehner ... doesn’t want someone like me around.”

{mosads}Walsh, a fiery Tea Party conservative known for breaking with GOP leadership on a number of issues, pledged that he will fight both Democrats and Republicans in order to avoid compromise.

“If we send typical Republicans to Washington, I can tell you, the typical Republicans will do what helped get us in this mess and they’ll forget they’re Republicans,” Walsh said, speaking at a town hall in the Illinois district where he plans to run against Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.) next year.

Walsh also characterized Hultgren as the type of conformist member of Congress that Boehner would prefer.

“Randy does what he’s told by them,” Walsh said. “If it’s Randy Hultgren against Joe Walsh running for this Congressional seat, I can guarantee you John Boehner and other folks are going to do whatever they can to help Randy get elected.”

Hultgren’s campaign told the Chronicle that Walsh was “grandstanding,” an accusation Walsh has faced in the past.
