postheadericon Ron Paul spends $1M on charter flights, double other GOP candidates

Ron Paul has spent nearly $1 million on charter flights throughout the early stages of the Republican campaign, more than doubling the amount spent by Michele Bachmann, the next closest candidate.

According to ABC News, Paul's charter amount far exceeds Bachman's $439,000. Mitt Romney, who has spoken about flying commercial - and praised low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines - spent between $300,000 and $400,000.

Rick Perry has spent $272,000 on charters, although his number is compressed having only joined the race in August. The Perry campaign also had admitted to underpaying a Texas businessman for use of his private jet, so the number may be rounded up.
