postheadericon Veteran lawmakers join Twitter for first time

Better late than never. Two long-standing members of congress joined Twitter over the past week and are now ready for followers.

Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) sent his first tweet after visiting Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Thursday, Feb. 10: 

Visited @WalterReedArmy today; #BRAC process on schedule. Awed by the courage of our heroes who need our continued support

BRAC stands for base closure and realignment. Walter Reed is in the process of moving services and closing its doors.

Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) also quietly re-joined Twitter as @RepAnnaEshoo on February 8. Her original Twitter feed was never used. Eshoo's first tweet announced her vote ag! ainst the PATRIOT Act and linked to a press release on her website. 

Both Bishop and Eshoo have been members of congress since 1993. As of Tuesday morning, Eshoo is beating Bishop for followers with 55 and 33, respectively. Both had tweeted three times.

Meanwhile, Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.) today welcomed their freshman colleague Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.) to Twitter.

Scott joined Twitter on January 6. He has 129 followers.
