Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and a number of newly minted Republican senators visited Afghanistan this past weekend.

McConnell (R-Ky.) was accompanied by first-time Sens. Ron Johnson (Wis.), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Pat Toomey (Pa.). Republican Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.) and Lindsay Graham (S.C.) were also part of the visiting delegation.

The Republican senators met with Gen. David Petraeus, who commands the U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Pakistani Chief Gen. Ashfaq Kayani and Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai. They also received briefings on military developments, regional politics and military operations.
