Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.) said Tuesday that he's seeking medical help amid reports from former staffers alleging bizarre behavior by Wu.

Wu, facing questions about his fitness for duty, said that he is in better mental health now.

"Last October was not a good month. It was very stressful. I did some things, I said some things, which I sincerely regret now," he said on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"And as a result of those things, I saw fit to consult professional help. I got the help I needed then. I'm continuing to consult medical help as I need it, and I'm in a good place now," he added.

Wu said that he's receiving both counseling and is now on medication.

Two local news sources -- The Oregonian and Willamette Week -- reported this week that several staff members staged an intervention for Wu in the closing days of last year's campaign. (Wu won reelection with 55 percent of the vote in his district.)

Wu admitted to sending "very unprofessional" pictures of himself in a Halloween costume dressed as a tiger to staff members.

A number of Wu staffers had resigned amidst questions about his mental health, most recently his campaign treasurer. The Oregonian reported Monday evening that Wu had named himself treasurer of his campaign.

He called the treasurer development a "very temporary situation," and said that he appreciated help from staff in his past.

"We value every single staffer. They've done a tremendous job for us," he said, adding that he's nearly filled all the staff positions left vacant by departed members.
