postheadericon Reid spokesman turns Romney speech against GOP

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-Nev.) top spokesman sought to paint a picture of division between former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's (R) CPAC speech and the actions by Republicans in Congress.

Jon Summers, the communications director for Reid, used Romney's speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday to needle the congressional GOP on jobs â€" specifically, the lack of attention to job creation Democrats have been claiming as of late.

Summers tweeted Friday:

Interesting to hear Romney talking about the importance of job creation. Congressional GOP has done zero to create jobs. #WereTheyListening

Indeed, Romney's speech was heavy on criticism of President Obama on the issue of jobs. The possible 2012 GOP presidential ! candidate accused Obama of being inattentive to job creation, a likely theme Romney would hit on in a run for the White House.

"These job fairs and unemployment lines are President Obama’s Hoovervilles," Romney said in his speech.

Summers turned that line of rhetoric against Republicans in the House and Senate. Democrats have said that, with the focus on repealing healthcare reform and passing other cuts, Republicans haven't focused on jobs. Reid and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) are expected to advance that argument again in a conference call this afternoon.

Republicans, for their part, argue their actions so far â€" trying to repeal health reform, working to repeal regulations and cutting spending â€" are very ! much directed toward job creation.
