postheadericon Emanuel pledges to donate to Twitter account's charity of choice after election

Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel pledged to donate at least $2,500 to charity if the writer behind a satirical Twitter account bearing his name reveals himself.

Emanuel fielded a question Tuesday about the Twitter account @MayorEmanuel, a satirical take on his mayoral run that has gained a legion of followers.

"After the election, if that guy â€" or gal â€" comes forward I'll donate $2500 to the charity of his choice," Emanuel said on a local radio station Tuesday.

Throughout his campaign to succeed retiring Mayor Richard Daley, Emanuel's campaign has been shadowed by the potty-mouthed Twitter handle. Media outlets have profiled the account and tried to uncover who's behind it, but the writer's identity remains a secret.

Unlike Emanuel's real Twitter account, @MayorEmanuel features crude jokes and vulgarities as well as an almost fantastical storyline of Emanuel, two fictional pet sidekicks and former White House! adviser David Axelrod.

As of Tuesday, the Twitter account had 24,803 followers. In comparison, the actual Rahm Emanuel account has 7,221 followers.

Asked whether he likes the fake twitter account, Emanuel digressed, noting the account's "huge following."

"Are you kidding? This guy â€" or gal, whoever writes â€" has done a huge following and a lot of people say I just read your tweet and I say huh?" Emanuel said.
