postheadericon Democrat: Obama budget draws on GOP ideas

President Obama's budget proposal draws on Republican ideas, a Democratic critic charged Monday.

Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.) complained that Obama looked to the GOP playbook in proposing a budget on Monday that would reduce spending by $1.1 trillion over the next decade.

"The budget proposal from President Obama is right from the Republican plan. This request for FY2012 opens the door for the huge cuts that Republicans are forcing us to digest for the rest of FY2011," Jackson said in a statement. "How can we stop the Republican cuts when the President has one-upped them?"

Jackson went on to compare the Obama budget to those of President Reagan â€" which isn't the first time the Illinois Democrat has sought to unfavorably compa! re the two.

Jackson, at the height of the tax-cut debate during the lame-duck Congress, said "Obamanomics" were like "Reaganomics," the supply-side-oriented economic policies of the iconic Republican president.

The Illinois Democrat levied that criticism again against Obama: "President Obama's budget proposals look all too Reagan-like."

A number of Democrats have embraced the Obama proposal on Monday, or at least shied away from harsh criticism. For as much as the Obama budget would implement a series of cuts, they're likely to be less severe than the cuts to be proposed in the forthcoming Republican budget.
