postheadericon Cornyn's birthday wish? A balanced budget

When Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) blows out the candles on his birthday cake Wednesday night, he might be wishing for legislation to balance the U.S. budget.

Cornyn, who turns 59 today, responded positively to a follower suggesting a balanced budget act as a birthday wish.

Mark Leita, lobbyist for the Scooter Store, asked Cornyn in a tweet: “Any birthday wishes? Possibly a balanced budget act?”

Cornyn tweeted in response: “A great gift.”

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) tweeted him a wish for a “happy birthday” and also gave a shout-out to the balanced-budget amendment, which Cornyn and a group of other Republicans, ! including Portman, introduced in the Senate last Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Cornyn also noted that he shares his birthday with Groundhog Day and celebrated that the groundhog reportedly didn’t see his own shadow this morning. "God bless Punxsutawney Phil - predicts an early spring,” he tweeted.
