Rep. Jared Polis (D-Co.) is “[a]mazed that Teach for America has h8rs,” according to a tweet Friday.

Polis argued with followers via Twitter on Thursday and Friday morning following his response to a critical comment about the non-profit organization, which recruits recent college graduates to commit two or more years to teaching in urban or low-income schools districts. Critics on Twitter called the speaker line-up for the upcoming TFA 20th Anniversary Summitâ€"which includes Education Secretary Arne Duncanâ€"too “establishment.”

Polis responded, “TFA is NOT establishmnt in any way/shape/form; still providing creative disruption after 20 yrs!”

The event w! ill take place on Saturday, February 12 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

Polis is a former chairman of the Colorado State Board of Education and education advocate in Congress who previously served on the House Committee on Education and the Workplace.
