postheadericon Campbell: Budget negotiations must remain civil

Negotiations on the budget have to remain civil, Rep. John Campbell (R-Calif.) said Monday.

"We need to begin this discussion and we can't excoriate on either side of the aisle for having a proposal that we disagree with," Campbell, who sits on the Budget and Financial Services committees, said on Southern California Public Radio.

Constructively critiquing a budget proposal is one thing, Campbell said, but members of Congress shouldn't criticize others for simply proposing a solution.

"We have to start proposing things and we need to stop excoriating people on the other side for making a proposal that works," Campbell said.

He said members of Congress need to say to themselves "'I may disagree with some of those things but don't criticize those people for proposing a solution.'"

On Monday President Obama released his 2012! budget which Republicans quickly slammed as failing to cut enough wasteful government spending.

House Republicans plan on introducing a counter-proposal which will include more spending cuts.
