postheadericon Amid unrest in Middle East, Joint Chiefs chairman heads to Jordan, Israel

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen will meet with key officials in Israel and Jordan this weekend amid growing concerns about instability in the Middle East.

Mullen will meet with King Abdullah II Sunday in Jordan and he’ll meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres in Israel, the Associated Press reports.

The meetings come as Jordan is facing its own protests and Israeli officials are concerned that the country’s relationship with Egypt could be frayed now that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has stepped down.
