postheadericon With future uncertain, Pence to address Indiana lawmakers

Rep. Mike Pence, a former member of the House GOP leadership, will address lawmakers in his home state on Tuesday amid speculation that he could launch a bid for higher office.

Pence will speak in the Indiana State House Tuesday afternoon about the need for a more limited government and the importance of state government.

{mosads}"This nation faces serious challenges that will require us to renew our commitment to institutions resilient enough to lead America back," he will say, according to prepared remarks. “I believe those are the institutions of faith, family, community and state government. To renew our nation we must have a renewal of American federalism."

Pence's speech is likely to fuel further talk of a run for the White House or the governor's mansion in Indiana. The Indiana lawmaker -- who is a favorite of conservative activists has been urged to run for both positions but has shined little light on what he will do next.

The congressman received a boost in September, when social conservative activists at the Values Voter Summit selected him as their favorite presidential contender in a straw poll. Pence beat out top potential candidates such as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R).

But Pence in his speech lauded another potential presidential contender from Indiana, Gov. Mitch Daniels (R), calling him "the best governor in America."
