Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee, while commemorating the birthday of civil-rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., has another personl reason to mark the day.

She tweeted Saturday:

Today, I remember my mother who shared a birthday with Dr. King. They were both trailblazers and ahead of their time. I honor them both.

The congresswoman also tweeted Friday:

As we approach the weekend that celebrates the legacy of Dr. King, Jr. let us remember that he wanted justice for all not just a few.

And again on Saturday:

I'm looking forward to the festivities over the next few days. We must remember and teach our children #DrKing changed our world forever.
