President Obama on Tuesday phoned Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to express his condolences for Monday's apparent terrorist attack on Moscow's Domodedovo Airport.

The attack, which the Russian government says was carried out by a suicide bomber, killed at least 35 and wounded at least 168 people.

"Obama reaffirmed his strong condemnation of this outrageous attack on innocent civilians and his commitment to work with Russia in combating terrorism," a White House readout of the call said.

Meanwhile, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the former president, vowed revenge.

"I do not doubt that this crime will be solved and that retribution is inevitable," he said Tuesday, according to Reuters. "The task of the government is to extend support to the families of the dead and inju! red."

Obama also congratulated Medvedev for the approval for the New START accord by the Duma, Russia's lower chamber of parliament. The upper house must still ratify the pact for it to take effect.
