postheadericon Mo. senators bump into each other in coach

It took four years, but Claire McCaskill and Kit Bond can now say they've traveled to DC together.

The Missouri senator and her just-retired senior counterpart were seatmates by chance on a flight to Washington on Tuesday, according to McCaskill's Twitter feed.

"Too funny," she said. "Kit (Bond) retires yesterday and we end up sitting next to each other in coach on plane to DC for the first time in 4 years."

Bond, a Republican, had served in the Senate for 24 years. He announced on Tuesday that he will be joining the Thompson Coburn law firm as a partner and working primarily out of its Washington office.

Bond's successor, former GOP Rep. Roy Blunt, will be sworn in on Wednesday.
