postheadericon Liberal group ad calls for Republicans to vote against healthcare repeal

The same day that the House of Representatives is set to begin the floor debate on repealing the Obama administration's healthcare reform law, a liberal interest group is airing an ad calling for Americans to rally against repeal.

The ad, created by Americans United for Change, argues that Americans have the same healthcare benefits as members of Congress under the Affordable Care Act, which repeal of the act would take away.

"The Affordable Care Act gave your family the same coverage that members of Congress get," the narrator in the ad says. "Call Congress. Tell them you deserve the same health insurance benefits you get. Tell them, don't repeal the Affordable Care Act."

The ad is a five-figure media buy set to air on CNN, Fox and MSNBC in the Washington area, and nationally on CNN. It will air through Wednesday.

"Make no mistake: A vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act is a vote to put Big Insurance back in charge so they ca! n go right back to maximizing profits by dropping people when they get sick and need coverage the most, imposing lifetime caps in coverage and denying coverage to sick kids because they happened to be born with a medical problem or disability," Americans United for Change Executive Director Tom McMahon said.

Repealing the Obama administration's healthcare reform legislation is one of the top priorities for Republicans in the 112th Congress. They have portrayed the measure as a job-killer.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has scheduled floor debate for repealing the healthcare law for Tuesday with a vote on Wednesday.
