postheadericon Issa's SOTU 'date' is committee's ousted top Democrat

Rep. Darrell Issa's (R-Calif.) State of the Union "date" is the ousted top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Issa, the chairman of the committee, said on Twitter that he'd be sitting with Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) at the joint-session speech by President Obama on Tuesday evening.

Issa tweeted Monday:

Just spoke with my friend, and new #SOTU neighbor, @EdTowns.

Towns had served as chairman of the committee during the last Congress, and had sought to continue as its ranking member for this Congress. He withdrew from contention for the spot after he said that Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made clear that he would not have her support.

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) was elected ranking member to spar with I! ssa for this Congress. It's not clear which Republican, if any, he'll sit next to tomorrow night.
