postheadericon Feingold planning critical book of US foreign policy

Former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) is working on a book on U.S. foreign policy, and readers shouldn't expect a "very positive assessment."

Feingold, who lost his reelection bid last fall, said he'll spend his time out of office writing a book about his perspective of "America’s relationship with the rest of the world" over the last 10 years.

"It will bring in my perspective on that, given what I’ve been involved in: listening to people in Wisconsin, being in many different places around the world as a senator, having watched some of these decisions being made from the inside," Feingold told The Capital Times. "Frankly, it’s not going to be a very positive assessment of the choices ! we’ve made in the last 10 years."

Feingold accepted a visiting professor job at the Marquette School of Law, prompting speculation that he might look to get back into politics at some point. Feingold was a liberal maverick during his time in the Senate, having led the fight on campaign finance reform and against the U.S. wars abroad.

But the Democrat told The Associated Press over the last weekend that he has no plans â€" for now â€" to run in two years.

Feingold said he'll finally have the time to write the book he never had time to tackle while he was in the Senate.

"It just strikes me as a potential sad chapter in our history that, 10 years after 9/11, we haven’t made the turn of looking at the world as it is," he said. "I! think we’re still looking at it as a world that was very di! fferent. And I think that could end up being a historic mistake."
