Governor Jan Brewer (R-Ariz.) signed into law a bill banning protestors from within 300 feet of the funerals of the victims of Saturday's Arizona shooting.

The bill, which Brewer signed into law Tuesday, is in anticipation of protestors from the Westboro Church based in Kansas who said they planned to picket the funeral of 9-year-old Christina Greene, one of the victims of the shooting on Saturday that claimed the lives of six and wounded more than a dozen including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.). It passed both houses of the state legislature with unanimous support.

"This bill passed unanimously out of both houses of the Arizona Legislature and represents a truly bipartisan effort to assure that grieving families and friends will be free from harassment and intimidation at the funerals of their loved ones," Brewer said in a statement.

Brewer said the bill's passage illustrates the bipartisan spirit of Arizona's legislature in light o! f the Arizona shooting.

“I want to commend the Arizona Legislature for coming together in a bipartisan manner to pass this legislation on the first full day of the legislative session," Brewer said. "This represents a remarkable spirit of unity and togetherness following Saturday's tragedy.”

The bill includes an emergency clause which made it effective when Brewer signed it.
