postheadericon Boehner says he'll take cue from sergeant at arms on lawmaker security

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday he takes his cues on member security from U.S. Capitol Police and the sergeant at arms.

"In general when it comes to the security of members, I'll rely on the sergeant at arms and the Capitol Hill Police and their recommendations to us," Boehner said.

Asked if he would hold votes on gun-control measures in response to the shooting Saturday of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), Boehner deflected.

Following the four-minute pro forma House session, Boehner stopped to take questions from several reporters waiting for him outside the House chamber.

Boehner said that he was at home when he heard the news of the shooting in Tucson, Ariz., and that he has been in contact with members of the Arizona delegation.

The new Speaker wouldn't comment on the legislative schedule for the rest of the week or when the House would vote on the healthcare repeal bill.
