Vice President Biden's chief of staff will leave his position this month for a position at an investment company, the White House said Tuesday.

The White House said that Ron Klain, a top member of the vice president's inner circle, will take a job as president of Case Holdings.

Klain will leave the Office of the Vice President at the end of January.

Klain had been a rumored candidate to replace the President's interim chief of staff, Peter Rouse. Klain previously served as Vice President Al Gore's chief of staff.

In a press release, Biden praised Klain for cultivating a "positive relationship" between the vice president's staff and President Obama's staff.

"For 25 years, Ron Klain has been my friend and advisor.  As my chief of staff in the White House, Ron has done an exceptional job of building my team, implementing my direction on top priorities, and providing invaluable counsel," Biden said in a press release.!   "He has also played a key role in establishing the strong, positive relationship that exists between my staff and the President's team.  I am proud of the successes we have had over these two years, and am grateful for the role Ron played in achieving them.  I wish him the best of luck as he takes this next step in his career."

The vice president's office has not named a replacement or interim replacement for Klain.
