Mitt Romney is among the least popular presidential candidates at the beginning of a campaign according to a new poll from ABC News and the Washington Post, trailing incumbent President Barack Obama in personal popularity by 21 percentage points.

Romney's 35 percent favorability rating - relative to a 47 percent unfavorability rating - is the worst for a presumptive presidential nominee since 1984. Romney is perceived especially poorly by women, where only 27 percent see him favorably, his lowest rating to date among female voters.

There are some good signs for Romney - his 44 percent favorability rating among men - is the highest of the campaign. And there is precede! nt for a candidate coming back from nearly as unfavorable a rating, with Bill Clinton rallying from a score just one percentage point better in 1992.
